Came across this notion in a friend’s tweet, it proports to be a plugin that allows you to replace all the advertising on every page you visit with things that you actually want to see. I suspect it would do this by detecting tell tale signs of an advertisement in the HTML and Javascript code.
The video below demonstrates an agency’s solution to online advertising for Dorito’s using an Ad Replacement Plugin. Which I find a little puzzling and self defeating as media sales would make up a portion of the agency’s business.
Thankfully for publishers the www.onlythegoodstuff.com site doesn’t seem to be online. On the flip side a video response to the above clip leads us to a site called Add-Art which allows you to replace the ads on all the pages you visit with curated art images. The images are updated every two weeks and features contemporary artists and curators.
The overall effect is a tranquil browsing experience leaving the focus on the content we are after, rather than flashy takeover ads.
A nice feature is the ability to disable this plugin for certain domains, because as annoying as these ads are, they pay the people who work hard to produce the content that we consume. This way I can turn the plugin off and support the smaller sites that really need the income.
It‘s quite in here! Why not leave a response?
